The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 in partnership with the Embassy of the United States in Abu Dhabi, the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai and Akil Cinema, will showcase the documentaries, ‘I’ll Push You’ and Stumped’ as part of its Determined! series in January.

On January 7 and 8 at 7.30pm, people can look forward to watching two documentary films at Dubai’s A4 Space, Alserkal Avenue and Abu Dhabi’s Manarat Al Saadiyat . Filmed in the summer of 2014, I’ll Push You, by Chris Karcher and Terry Parish, showcases the journey of two lifelong friends, Justin Skeesuck and Patrick Gray, as they embark on a five-and-a-half-week journey to hike Spain's El Camino de Santiago. Their pilgrimage is further complicated by the fact that Justin is a wheelchair user. The 98-minute feature film explores the dynamics of a life-long friendship and the journey of friendship, generosity and vulnerability.

The second documentary of the month, ‘Stumped’, will be shown at 7.30pm on January 21 and 22 at Cinema Akil, Dubai, and at 7.30pm on January 21 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi.

The 2017-released film is an inspiring movie directed by Robin Berhaus, who tells the story of Will Lautzenheiser’s – a filmmaker, whose limbs are amputated. With his life derailed as a result, he turns to stand-up comedy as therapy. The 72-minute drama follows Lautzenheiser, who agrees to undergo an experimental double-arm transplant in the hope of reclaiming his independence.

As the UAE prepares to host Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, Determined! will highlight the inspirational stories of People of Determination and develop awareness of inclusion and tolerance.

With more than 7,500 athletes from over 192 nations competing, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world this year and will set the benchmark for the most ‘unified’ Games in the 50-year history of the Special Olympics movement. It promises to be an unforgettable experience for people with intellectual disabilities and those without.
