The UAE men’s unified 11-a-side football team ended the group stage on a winning note as the hosts defeated Jamaica at Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.
At Zayed Sports City, the UAE put on an impressive display to register a 4-1 triumph. Ali Mahrooqi opened the scoring in the 27th minute before Mohammed Almaamari doubled the lead three minutes later. Abullah Peerak’s brace put the UAE 4-0 up before Shawn Beckford scored a consolation goal in the 60th minute for Jamaica.
It was the UAE’s second victory in 24-hours after beating South Africa on Friday. The group stages will end tomorrow with the knockout stages starting on Monday.
Football made its debut at the World Games in 1986 and has become one of the largest sports on the program, featuring traditional and unified teams across the 11-a-side, 7-a-side and futsal competitions.
