The local organization committee (LOC) for Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees (UANOC) to encourage referees from the region to volunteer and attend the Games as the UAE hosts what will be the biggest sports and humanitarian event in the world next year.

Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Managing Director at Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 and Saud Bin Ali Al Abdulaziz, General Secretary at UANOC, signed the MoU in the presence of several key members of the LOC, Special Olympics UAE athletes, and representatives from sports entities including the UAE National Olympic Committee, the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, and Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

In the months leading up to the Games, volunteer referees will receive in-depth training on working with people of determination to ensure they are fully prepared for their roles.
