POEM: Balla, Balla, Balla

Special Olympics volunteer blog writer Jill Bordelon Munir was inspired by the incredible and contagious chants of the Jamaican footie fans.

Balla, Balla, Balla

Balla, Balla, Balla,
Good Baller,
This Is How We Do It,
One Love,
One World,
One Jamaica

Balla, Balla, Balla,
No Problem Jamaica,
We Do Not Kick The Ballers,
Help Him Up,
Good Sportsmanship,
Good Balla

Wicked and Wild,
That’s How We Play,
Run Dum Balla,
Show Them,
Show Them,
Keep It Like That,
Balla, Balla, Balla

Take Care Of My Youth,
Jamaica We Will Never Leave You Again,
Special Olympics Jamaica,
We Are Sorry Austria

Balla, Balla, Balla,
That Jamaica’s Ballars,
This Is How We Do It!

Jill added: “Special Olympics Jamaica’s star shined bright for the entire world to see. Congratulations for winning the gold. The final score was 3-0 with a hat trick from athlete Damion Gordon.

“Football is truly a fan favorite sport at the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019. The Divisional 2 Men’s Finals between SO Jamaica Vs. SO Austria was just that - full of fans cheering on their favorites teams.”

Talking about her inspiration for the poem, Jill said: “Natalie Cabourne, Jamaican superfan – her words above, helped motivate the spirit of all in the stands. Balla in Jamaican means you are a good football player. Balla, Balla, Balla! Good Baller!”
