CONCERT: Sounding a unified note

The concept of inclusion will get a standing ovation at a dedicated Abu Dhabi Festival concert

If music be the food of love, play on… because the Special Olympics movement is all about spreading unity and acceptance and helping to ensure everyone, regardless of their ability level, are cherished members of society.

Celebrating the part that arts and culture have to play in being a force for unity, the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF), the organizer of Abu Dhabi Festival, is hosting a Stand Up For Inclusion concert on March 16 at Emirates Palace. Part of ADMAF’s proud support of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, the Festival is collaborating with Special Olympics Korea for what will be a unique and captivating 90-minute concert.

In line with the Festival’s theme for 2019 – The Culture of Determination – the organizers say that the concert will deliver a message of hope to everyone and help people see what is normally unseen.

Performed by a specially selected group of people of determination from Korea, as well as famed soprano and Grammy Award-winning Sumi Jo, the concert will feature an eclectic mix of classical and contemporary music from Schubert, Mozart and Haydn to Stevie Wonder and Ennio Morricone.

Sumi Jo is much-in-demand by the leading opera companies of the world and has enjoyed a sparkling career over more than three decades. After being named the soprano of the year at the sixth La Siola d’Oro in Forli, Italy in 1993, she has gone on to perform in revered concert halls around the world including at the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Those wanting to get in the mood for the concert can search for her critically acclaimed album 2001 album ‘Prayers’ on Spotify or other popular streaming services.

The Stand Up For Inclusion Concert will be a one-of-a-kind cultural experience that promises to be the perfect musical accompaniment to the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, the largest humanitarian sporting event taking place in the world this year.
