One of the most impressive facts about the Special Olympics movement is that it is the world’s largest volunteer organization with more than two million volunteers across the globe. The 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi will need 20,000 volunteers to operate smoothly, but the reward for those volunteers will be a lifetime of happy memories, and a shared experience of joy and inspiration they will never forget.
Ambassadors of Inclusion
The Special Olympics World Games help create and expand understanding of the movement’s vision of a more inclusive, integrated society, a vision we share in the UAE. While communicating through the media helps spread that message, much of the work is done by individual advocates – people we’re calling Ambassadors of Inclusion – who speak to other individuals, small groups, in schools, and to local community organizations and promote and practice our values of inclusion in their daily lives.
The Ambassadors of Inclusion program is the brainchild of Sedra Foundation, our Legacy Partner, and we are excited to be partnering with them to expand the program for the Games.
We’re looking for Special Olympics UAE athletes and family members, government and community leaders, Unified Partners, students, and passionate individuals who would like to help bring the message of hope and humanity to their communities to join our Ambassadors of Inclusion team.
Youth Leader Academy
A limited number of internships are available through the World Games Youth Leader Academy, a special program for young people who can dedicate several months of their time to the 2019 Special Olympics World Games. In exchange for their time commitment and work, they will be given opportunities to learn in-depth about working for a Local Organizing Committee and working on a global sports event with people with intellectual disabilities.
